In preparation for the Fall term, Cognella has implemented a number of pricing and format improvements to support instructors and students as they navigate higher education in the time of COVID-19.
For the Fall term, students who purchase a paperback copy of their textbook from the Cognella Student Store (store.cognella.com) will have the opportunity to add on the purchase of an ebook of the text for $10.
Additionally, beginning in Fall 2020:
- The cost of paperback textbooks in the Cognella Student Store includes shipping.
- We’ve implemented a ceiling price on all Cognella Student Store ebooks in an effort to make them more affordable, especially for courses that use larger and more expensive textbooks.
We hope these improvements will continue to help students thrive within their courses in Fall 2020 and beyond.
Our team will continue to monitor the academic market, listen to feedback from students and instructors, and consider further improvements as we all navigate these challenging times.
May 22, 2020 – 2:30 pm PST
An update on printing and shipping times: Due to COVID-19, the shipment of paperback textbooks may be delayed up to two weeks. To ensure there is no interruption with student’s studies, all paperback orders will include a complimentary ebook at the time of purchase.
May 15, 2020 – 4 pm PST
Our printing partner has notified us that the printing and shipping of textbooks may take up to 22 – 25 days due to the pandemic and associated increases in demand. For the summer academic term, we are offering students a free full-length ebook with purchase of a paperback textbook from the Cognella Student Store. We are committed to ensuring students have the materials they need for their summer courses. Due to this development, we are also suspending our textbook rental program until further notice. We look forward to bringing back this exciting program when we are able to do so safely and effectively.
We will continue to monitor print and shipping times and determine how we can best help students succeed during the fall term.
May 1, 2020 – 3 pm PST
To avoid costly and environmentally detrimental back stock, Cognella subscribes to an on-demand printing model. In light of COVID-19 and an increase in demand, our printing partner, Ingram, has notified us that the printing and shipment of Cognella textbooks may take 12-15 business days.
In light of potential delays, we encourage students to purchase ebooks of Cognella titles through the Cognella Student Store (store.cognella.com). If students prefer print, we suggest they purchase their materials from Cognella at least two weeks before the first day of class to ensure they receive their materials in a timely manner. Cognella also provides an immediate digital download of approximately the first 30% of all print textbooks purchased through the Cognella Student Store, so students can begin reading and studying while their book is in transit.
In an effort to support students, our customer service team will proactively contact students if we learn the delivery of their materials may be delayed.
April 23, 2020 – 12 pm PST
To support all instructors and students using Cognella learning materials in Summer or Fall 2020 courses, we are proactively setting up these materials for online purchase and offering direct-to-student delivery through the Cognella Student Store (store.cognella.com).
As traditional on-campus purchasing options are currently affected, and may continue to be affected, by COVID-19, we are implementing this measure to ensure students have access to the materials they need to succeed in their fall and summer courses. Cognella titles will be posted in the online student store at least three weeks prior to the first day of class.
